Introdutcion To The Healthcare System

Published by johng31 at 10:15 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Greetings from the great state of NY! I would like to welcome you to my blog that will mainly be centered around the current health care system that is in place for the country and try to focus on specific issues that we, as Americans, are facing today. I would like to incorporate on general health care tips on ways to keep yourself out of the hospital as much as possible.

My backtround is in nursing, and healthcare settings management and administration. I have worked as a RN for 9 years, a LPN x2 years, an LNA x1 year, and I was a NR-EMT by the US Army x 6 years. I have seen a lot of changes influencing health care over the last 10 years. Today we are experiences national economical hardship as everyone is ware, however I am sure people do not realyze it is making a direct impact on health care facilities.

This is the first time in my 10 year career that I have witnessed Hospitals laying off nurses in order to help control a budget that is out of control. This directly impacts you the consumer, yes you are a consumer when you are a patient in the hospital, by taking away valuable assistance time you may require when ill. This creates a domino effect. Patients become stressed and wish to leave the hospital due to staff shortage and go home too early.  High percentages of patients do this and end up requiring re-admission. This costs more money to the hospital that if they kept a majority of the staff they had layed off.

The key for you the customer, patient, and consumer is to try and stay out of the hospital as best as possible. A majority of patients requiring admission into the hospital setting are those that have chronic illnesses that have flared up. I will pick certain illnesses such as diabetes, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and obesity and try to give3 medical information to help you manage it better from home, thus decreasing your hospitalizations.

I care about what is happening in this country and I care that people should always feel comfortable going to hospitals, however I fear that soon people will be turned away and we will see higher rates of depression, suicide, job loss, and economic hardship.

Please stay posted for more information dealing with this crisis.
